About the CPCA

The CPCA is a National non-profit Association registered in accordance with the Canada Corporations Act and governed by a National Board of Directors. We have been dedicated to the promotion of public confidence and trust in the counselling profession throughout Canada since 1990.

Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC)

RPC members have successfully completed a Core Competency Qualifying Exam following the completion of a minimum 450 hours of theoretical education with a minimum 90 hours of practicum experience and are working with a Clinical Supervisor while they satisfy the candidate requirements of 600 clinical hours.

In addition, full Members have completed a minimum 600 hours in counselling and/or psychotherapy under clinical supervision by a mental health professional(s). These 600 hours include a minimum of 150 supervision hours, 250 direct clinical contact hours (DCC), and 200 practice hours.

To maintain good standing as a Candidate member with the CPCA, members are required to attest to their ongoing commitment to adhere to the high standards of the CPCA Code of Ethics and submit proof of liability insurance annually.
